Frequently Asked Questions

Account and Login

Q: I cannot log in. What should I do?

Make sure you are using the correct email address and password. If you have forgotten your password, use the password reset option on the login screen. If the problem persists, contact us at support@woodyword.com.

Q: How do I delete my account?

Go to Settings and choose Delete Account. Deletion is permanent and irreversible. All your flashcards, decks, stories, and statistics will be erased. If you would like help before deleting, email us first.

Flashcards and AI Generation

Q: How does WoodyWord generate flashcards?

WoodyWord has a built-in vocabulary database. When you import content such as a document, image, YouTube video, Wikipedia article, or plain text, we scan it for words. Words already in our database are matched instantly. For words not yet in the database, our AI generates the definition, translation, and example sentences on the fly.

Q: The AI generated an incorrect definition. What can I do?

AI-generated content can occasionally contain errors. If you spot an inaccuracy, please email us at support@woodyword.com with the word and the incorrect content.

Q: How long does it take to generate a Smart Deck?

Smart Deck generation typically takes a few minutes depending on the length of your content. You can close the app and we will send you a push notification when your deck is ready.

Subscriptions and Billing

Q: What is the difference between free and premium?

Free users receive 3 credits on sign-up. Premium subscribers receive 50 credits per billing period (renewing automatically), plus access to all app features. Credits are shared between Smart Deck generation and AI story generation — each action draws from the same pool.

Q: How do I cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed through your platform's app store. On iPhone and iPad, go to Settings, Apple ID, then Subscriptions. On Android, open Google Play, then Subscriptions. You must cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid being charged for the next period.

Q: Can I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by the Apple App Store or Google Play Store according to their respective policies. We cannot process refunds directly.

Q: How do I restore my premium subscription on a new device?

Open WoodyWord and go to Settings, then Subscription. Tap Restore Purchases. Make sure you are signed in to the same Apple ID or Google account used for your original purchase.

Content and Privacy

Q: Is my uploaded content stored on your servers?

No. WoodyWord does not permanently store your raw uploaded documents or text. Content is processed to extract vocabulary and then discarded.

Q: Do you share my data with AI providers?

Before any content is sent to AI providers, it goes through an anonymization step that detects and masks personally identifiable information. For full details, please see our Privacy Policy.

Technical Issues

Q: The app crashed or is freezing. What should I do?

First, try force-closing and reopening the app. If the issue persists, reinstall WoodyWord. If it still happens, email us at support@woodyword.com with your device model, OS version, and a brief description of what happened.

Stories

Q: What is the Story feature?

Stories are short, AI-generated immersive texts in your target language. Each story comes with audio narration so you can listen while you read. In Study Mode, tap any word to instantly see its flashcard with definition, translation, and example sentences.

Q: How many stories can I generate?

Free users can generate 1 story (lifetime). Premium users can generate up to 2 new stories per day. Story generation draws from the same credit pool as Smart Deck creation.

Q: How does audio playback work in stories?

The story player includes play/pause controls, a seek bar, adjustable playback speed, and text that highlights in sync with the audio position. You can also adjust the font size for comfortable reading.

Arcade Game

Q: What is the Arcade game?

The Arcade is a timed flashcard practice mode. You have up to 90 seconds to answer as many questions as possible in two formats: multiple-choice (pick the correct translation) and cloze drag-and-drop (drag the missing word into the sentence). Your score and in-session streak are tracked, and a summary screen shows your results at the end.

Dictionary

Q: How do I use the Dictionary?

Open the Dictionary tab and type any word in your target language. Suggestions appear automatically as you type. Tap a word to see its full flashcard — definition, translation, and example sentences.

Q: Can I save a word from the Dictionary to my vocabulary?

Yes. From a word's flashcard view inside the Dictionary you can save it directly to your personal vocabulary list for future review sessions.

Daily Lessons and Streaks

Q: What are Daily Lessons?

Daily Lessons are short, curated vocabulary sessions that appear on your Home screen each day. They are tailored to your level and goals, complete offline immediately, and sync automatically when you reconnect.

Q: What is a streak and how do I maintain it?

A streak counts the number of consecutive days you have studied in WoodyWord. Completing a Daily Lesson or reviewing a deck on a given day maintains your streak. Your current streak and a calendar view appear on your Profile page. Streak data syncs in the background even when you are offline.

Q: Do Daily Lessons count toward my streak?

Yes. Completing a Daily Lesson counts as a study day and keeps your streak alive.

Account and Settings

Q: What can I change in Settings?

From the Settings screen you can update:

You can also delete your account permanently from the bottom of the Settings screen.

Library: Smart Decks vs. Theme Decks

Q: What is the difference between Smart Decks and Theme Decks?

Smart Decks are decks you create by importing a document, image, YouTube link, Wikipedia article, or text. They appear in the Smart Decks section of your Library.

Theme Decksare pre-made curated sets (Daily Conversation, Social Life, Academic & Professional, and more) available in the Explore tab. Starting a Theme Deck does not use any credits.
